Regardless of whether the real estate market is going up or down, there will always be sellers who try to sell their homes themselves. Although they're often seen as the bane of real estate agents, the fact is that most FSBOs (For Sale By Owners) aren't really a threat to brokers, and the statistics bear that out.

It seems that the media is intent on filling the airwaves and publications with the thoughts of various doom-and-gloom economists who are heralding the recent rise in interest rates as the beginning of the end for America's real estate market. However, when taken in context of not-that-long-ago historical terms, today's interest rates were only to be dreamed of a couple decades ago.

If you're fixing a home to sell in today's market, keep up with features home buyers expect to see in your remodel. Home buyers often look at model homes and then buy a more affordable resale home. If you want to attract these buyers, use carpet similar to what they see in the model homes staged by professional interior designers.

If you've been writing off your property taxes on your federal income tax form every year, you may need to be more careful with your figures if the recommendations of a report are accepted and adopted into legislation by Congress. A congressional committee recently suggested that many homeowners have been deducting more property tax than they should from their taxes, which, according to the report, has been costing the government hundreds of millions of dollars every year.
